“Education is a Right, Not a Privilege” – The Journey of Roshni Mukherjee

“A teacher has the power to transform lives,” says Roshni Mukherjee, a TEDx speaker and founder of learnohub.com, an inspiring free learning platform that has touched the lives of millions. Imagine being at the forefront of an education revolution, paving the way for millions of students to learn for free—years before e-learning became a buzzword. That’s exactly how this journey began. From pioneering educational content on YouTube in 2011 to becoming a household name for students across India, the path has been anything but ordinary.

The Spark: A Passion for Teaching

Roshni’s love for teaching began in her childhood. “I was academically inclined, always helping classmates and juniors with concepts, even when I was in Class 7,” she recalls. Her experiences instilled in her the belief that learning could and should be inspiring and enjoyable.

However, as she grew older, she noticed the perception that education was often equated to grades alone, leaving students unmotivated. This realization fueled her desire to make learning meaningful and engaging.

The Beginning of an Idea

While working as a quality analyst at a MNC, Roshni brainstormed ways to combine her passion for teaching with the ability to reach a wider audience. In 2011, she discovered YouTube and saw its potential as a free, user-friendly platform.

She started small, uploading a few physics lessons for high school students. To her surprise, students began leaving comments like, “What you explained in 10 minutes, my teacher couldn’t explain in a week.”

“That one comment made me realize the impact my videos could have,” says Roshni. It was the turning point that solidified her commitment to building a platform that would provide free, high-quality educational content to all.

Challenges and the Birth of a Vision

A pivotal moment in Roshni’s journey came through her interactions with her house help, a single mother from rural Tamil Nadu. She often spoke of her struggles to ensure her children received a proper education, as teachers in their government school were frequently absent.

This encounter revealed the stark inequalities in education accessibility across India. “That’s when I decided to create a platform where quality education could be accessible to every child, no matter their socio-economic background,” says Roshni.

Without thinking of monetary returns, she poured her efforts into creating curriculum-based content that would remain freely accessible forever.

Exam Fear

Recognition and Impact: A Growing Movement

By 2014, Roshni had resigned from her corporate job to focus full-time on content creation. Over the years, she expanded her library to cover the NCERT curriculum for grades 6 to 12, spanning subjects like physics, mathematics, and biology.

Her tireless efforts didn’t go unnoticed. In 2016, Roshni was nominated for the President’s Award and recognized as one of India’s 100 Women Achievers. But for her, the true reward lay in the countless success stories she began receiving.

One such story is that of Deepal Jain, a student from Madhya Pradesh who relied solely on Roshni’s biology lessons to secure the top spot in her state board exams. “Thank you, ma’am. You’ve been my pocket tutor,” wrote another girl, unable to attend classes due to societal restrictions.

The Battle for Sustainability
Sustainability has been a constant challenge. Unlike traditional jobs with fixed salaries, running a free educational platform required relentless determination. The guiding principle? Impact over profit. We’ve never charged students because education should be accessible to everyone, no matter their financial background,” she affirms.

But life threw its curveballs. In 2017, when India saw an internet boom (thanks to Jio), the founder was on maternity leave. Competitors surged, and the once upward-trending graph plateaued. “It was heartbreaking to see the growth stop,” she recalls. Yet, the break wasn’t the end; it was a prelude to a powerful comeback.

2019: A Comeback with Rebranding Exam Fear to Learnohub
“When I returned, the game had changed, but so had I.” Armed with renewed vigor, she launched Learnohub, with upgraded content tailored for modern students. Core subjects like Physics and Chemistry for grades 11 and 12 became the channel’s crown jewels, racking up millions of views.

The Present and Future of learnohub.com

Today, learnohub.com stands as a beacon of hope for millions, offering free, high-quality content to students across the country. Roshni’s journey is far from over. Her vision is to reach every corner of India and inspire a global community of learners.

“Education is not a privilege; it is a right,” Roshni emphasizes. Her story is not just one of personal triumph but a reminder that every effort, no matter how small, can create ripples of change.

A Legacy of Purpose

Roshni’s inspiring journey teaches us that when passion meets purpose, the results can transform not just individual lives but entire communities. Let her words serve as a guiding light for educators and changemakers alike:

“Success is not about the recognition you receive but about the lives you touch along the way.”

Celebrate her story, share her vision, and join the movement to make education accessible for all.
